Inside the Salesforce Ecosystem Episode 19: Women’s Day Special with Heather Black, CEO of Supermums

For the International Women’s Day special episode of Inside the Salesforce Ecosystem, we had the privilege of speaking with Heather Black, Founder and CEO of Supermums.

Supermums is an award-winning social enterprise that has empowered more than 1,000 women to relaunch their careers in tech.

Since founding Supermums in 2016, Heather has helped bridge the digital skills gap, overseen over 700 Salesforce projects, and created a scalable pathway for mothers and women to access flexible, well-paid careers in the Salesforce ecosystem. Her work has been recognized with the Salesforce Golden Hoodie and the Women in Tech 100 award, but as she shared with us, the real reward is something far more personal.

This Women’s Day, we celebrate not just her achievements, but the movement she has built. If you’d like to hear Heather share her journey in her own words, you can tune in to the full episode here:

From “Accidental Admin” to Ecosystem Leader

Heather’s journey into tech wasn’t planned.

“I was running a coaching business and then started using Salesforce to manage everything for that organization. So, I fell in love with it, and the rest is history.”

What started as managing her own system evolved into something bigger.

“I became an admin and managed my own system, tinkering away with it, and then realized, actually, I wanted to learn more about the career opportunities.”

That curiosity led her to upskill, move into consulting, and eventually build her own Salesforce consultancy.

But the turning point came when she experienced firsthand the flexibility and earning potential the ecosystem could offer — particularly as a mother.

“Being a mum myself, having a newborn child, working remotely from home, earning £400 day rates… It was like, why aren’t more women doing this? And why have we got a shortage of women in that role?”

That question became the foundation for Supermums.

Building Supermums: A Platform with Purpose

The idea for Supermums didn’t materialize overnight. Heather sat with it for years, attempting to secure funding before deciding to take a different route.

“I tried three or four different funding routes… but I didn’t want to discriminate the women that we get on the program. I wanted to make it accessible for anybody that wanted to do it.”

Instead of relying on sponsorship models that limited access, she built a sustainable program that women could commit to seriously.

“When people do commit financially to something, they’ve got a better chance of seeing it through.”

Supermums launched with just three women in its first cohort. Today, it trains around 70 women per quarter across time zones, equipping them not only with Salesforce skills but also with business analysis, agile, project management, change management and now AI capabilities.

“We train people in Salesforce but also a suite of other AI products now… so they can actually start advising businesses on how to become AI ready.”

Nearly a decade in, Supermums has grown into a global community, placing women into consultancies, ISVs, end customers, and Salesforce teams across the ecosystem.

The Proud Moment

When we asked Heather what it feels like to see women land jobs, grow in their roles, and succeed through Supermums, she said it gives her a true “proud parent” moment.

She also described how staying close to the grassroots, reviewing CVs, running advice clinics, and gathering case studies keep her connected to the impact.

“I really think it’s important in a leadership position to still be at the grassroots and to see and experience what people are doing,” she mentioned.

It’s a powerful reminder for leaders everywhere: purpose must stay visible.

The Ambitious Women Mindset

Heather’s mission goes beyond technical training. She speaks passionately about cultivating what she calls the ambitious women mindset—particularly for women returning from career breaks.

Her framework centers on energy, confidence, goals, relationships, and impact.

“You’re making sure you’re plugging yourself into the energy socket every day.”

Whether that’s coaching, mentorship, or setting boundaries, ambition without sustainability leads to burnout, something she experienced herself.

“We can be in a job working remotely and still be drained… still not feel like we’ve got flexibility.”

True empowerment, she explains, is holistic.

Why the Salesforce Ecosystem Matters

On paper, tech is one of the fastest-growing sectors globally. Yet only 20% of AI-related roles are filled by women.

“That annoys me, and that’s why I do what I do.”

Heather sees Salesforce as a particularly powerful entry point. But flexibility alone isn’t enough. Companies must actively create inclusive recruitment processes and balanced leadership representation.

“We need to make sure there’s equal… women in leadership roles interviewing candidates as well.”

Recognition and What It Really Means

When Heather received her Golden Hoodie, it wasn’t about personal status.

“For me, it kind of represents our community and what we believe in.”

And for someone running a business without a traditional manager?

“When you’re running your own business, nobody pats you on the back, right?”

Recognition matters. It reinforces impact. It sustains momentum.

A Message to Women Considering Tech

For women unsure whether they’re “ready” to enter tech, Heather’s advice is simple: do the groundwork.

“Find out more; do your research and understand the different job roles and their transferable skills.”

And most importantly: “If they’ve done it, I can do it too.”

Representation fuels confidence.

Celebrating Impact This Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is about more than celebration. It’s about visibility, equity, and action.

Heather Black didn’t just build a training program. She built a platform that has helped thousands of women step into financial independence, flexible careers, and leadership pathways within tech.

From “accidental admin” to ecosystem changemaker, her journey proves what happens when ambition meets purpose.

And as she continues to scale Supermums into its next decade, one thing is clear:

This is not just about careers. It’s about reshaping the future of tech, one woman at a time.
